Although there is a lot of good things in the book, half of it is christianized propaganda but the deck itself is stunning. The art is by Bill Worthington and I have taken close up snaps for viewing. I have also extracted the good bits of the book but when it comes to interpretation, I also recommend looking at the critter as a spirit guide and studying it for a better card reading. Eventually I will write posts on the animal guide and will link them in the correspondences of the pagans magi site. The sight link is towards the right of this blog site. The Bee is Beach in Old Gaelic (Pronounced Be-ach) and the overall tone of this card is Community, Celebration and Organization. From the chapter 'the druid animal' A Queen Bee resting on a stone in Tara with the shining noonday Sun and Heather (Ur in Gaelic) is growing by the rock. The rock is carved with the Ogham 'Ur' 'I am the Queen of every hive' The song of Amergin 'Ask the wild bee what the Druids knew' Old English adage In Druidry the Bee comes from the realm of the Sun and the Spirit (Air itself) The Sun can, from one point of view can also be seen as the manifestation of the Goddess since in Celtic languages the word for sun was originally feminine. In Irish and Scottish it still is Grian or Griene. The Goddess Brighid or Bridey is also of the Sun and Fire, as well as of wells and water. In early Irish text, the people of Munster were likened to Bees. The gentle hum of the bee lulls us into sleep on a summer's afternoon. Drawing us into the dreamworld relm. The significance of the Bee's hum is recognized in local common names for the bee such as the Drumbee, Drummer, Doombledore, Hummabee and Humbledad. In the Welsh tradition the harp is known as Teillinn, a shortening or corruption of an T-seillean (A bee) and in one of the early Welsh Bardic Triads, a magical sow called Henwen, sacred to the Goddess. Henwen gives birth to a wolfcub, an eagle, a kitten, a grain of wheat, and a bee. The bee dances a Sun dance which is the Lemniscate pattern (the Infinity symbol and symbol of the Celtic third eye chakra) The bees use the pattern as a means to communicate the orientation and distance of 'rich pastures' and other members of the hive. Dancing a homage to the Sun, celebrating the Sun's life giving powers, the bee has a highly defined social structure and is highly productive, efficient in the community, centres around the 'Queen' bee. In ancient Druidic laws (Brehon laws) bees and hives were protected and on the Isle of Man it was a capital offense to steal bees. The hive itself echoed was a symbol of perfect community, echoed in the beehive tombs or initiation chambers of Newgrange and Dowth in Ireland, in Spain and in Portugal. Card Reading;
